On a recent trip to Borough market, the Carnivore and I stopped for breakfast at one of our favorite breakfast places in London - Maria's Market Cafe. Located smack in the center of the market, Maria's is always worth a trip, both for its location and for its food.
It was a very cold morning, and our coffee and breakfasts were most welcome. The Carnivore went the traditional route, dining on bacon, sausage, fried eggs and toast, while I tried the special of the day, calf's liver, bacon, rocket, and mustard-mayo on a bap.
If you look closely, you can see the steam rising off our food.

It may go without saying, but breakfast was completely delicious. There's a reason we're devoted to Maria's - and that's saying a lot, considering the fact that Borough on a Saturday morning is positively awash with delicious things to eat - and the above picture might give you a sense why. Portions are generous, prices are cheap, and the atmosphere is, well, atmospheric. Maria's is an open-air establishment. To get a table you must lurk around the outskirts of the restaurant and rush in, trampling whoever has the bad luck to get between you and your seat, the moment you see people beginning to look like they might be thinking about possibly leaving. If you're there on a cold day you might get lucky and wind up near a heat lamp - but don't count on it. Food is served on tableware that seems to have come from the dining cars of a defunct train service, and the green-checked plastic tablecloths lend an overall cheerful appearance to the place on even the dreariest of drear London mornings.
Thanks for the great review!
We will be arriving early at London Bridge Hotel in November and I was thinking of going here for breakfast before hitting the town. Thanks to your pics now my husband is also convinced... :-)
