Do you like a taste of the exotic?
The unusual?
The off-the-beaten track?
The you'll love baby elephant.
I have to say, I wasn't convinced until I tried it, but Dumbo is one of the nicest things I've ever eaten. Really succulent. I had the ears done as fritters, which were served with a delicious "green" sauce. Still pink on the inside.
But it was the trunk that was the real deal. "Yes I'd love to try the trunk 'marrow' please" is not a phrase I ever thought I'd hear myself utter. But boy, am I glad I did! Obviously it's not marrow in the traditional sense because there are no bones in a trunk, but the insides were fleshy, moist, melt-on-the-mouth morsels.
I was so fat after the meal that I thought I had come down with elephantiasis! (Geddit!!!!)
Certainly not a meal I'll forget in a hurry! (Geddit!!!)
Anyway, I can't recommend it highly enough. Sure, if you want to go for an obvious choice, choose pie.
But what is a pie anyway? It's mostly not even meat. In a drizzly gravy? None of that with elephant. The juices it produces are, well something that rhymes with 'uces' that I can't think of right now. And it is a taste sensation you'll never forget.
Ok, you're even more my hero. But a hero that could probably do with a job where he's kept busier.
